im liken it....ok,got a new rear tire.Dunlop D404 140/90-16 to go with the 83 rear wheel. put the tire on,swapped rotors(81 has more braking surface).tried to use the 81 axel and wouldnt work,tried the 83 axle,went in first try.the rotor lines up with the caliper bracket,BUT the tire hits the drive shaft tube.not bad but still rubs it. it there a way to shim the wheel over just a lil bit?? or do i need to ues the 83 diff?

83 spacer is the same. the hot wrench took care rubbin problem. those wheels make my wing look so much better

I agree the 83 wheels are much better looking. That is one tight fit, I curious, I haven't read the entire threat but what do you feel the advantage is to going to a wider tire? The reason I asked it because I have considered the same thing, but now that I see how tight it is I think I'll stay with stock.
 
rides better, ya dont feel the cracks or lil bumps as much. theres more rubber from the rim to the road. my 81 is on the left with the stock rear tire, 83 on the right,stock rear tire

finally found a 84 1200 interstate. sat for a long time out side,some else bought from the orignal owner and wanted to make a rat bike. he gonna give the fairing,bags ect when he can digum out of this 14in of snow we got. shows 59,000mi.....$50. needed a good carb cleanin,fuel pump(have one).(carbs were off it when i got it),still needs a solinoid put on(i have one) runs good now. gonna do the swap later on when i get the 1200 all cleaned up and polished.also gonna the clutch over to cable.

the day i got it..it was burried in a snow bank

my 81(with a 83 engine) goin in the basement for winter storage. its 38 out
 
1100 heads any better? the carbs are bigger on the 1200. any benifits of swappin heads and carbs

pass the short bolck???
