I joined this forum to get a handle on the gl 1100 bike, I was literally given an 81 gl1100 today, its in serious disrepair, but I happen to already own three other bikes two of them one a cx500d and the other a cx650c that I have restored so that and being a master heavy equipment mechanic I am now working up to the Goldwings.
If any other Alaskans are here send me a message!

I seem to recall you had a GW that was badly rusted up and had someone here on the forum free it up?
I have a similar situation and after reading that thread I am following it to a tee. About to see what the actual cylinder looks like, its been pickled in a mix of diesel fuel and atf for two days now, gonna pull the head in an hour or so.
My goal in the future is to spend a year or two just riding around Oz seeing things, maybe a gold prospecting adventure.

The Rat's Nest was a very interesting and enjoyable project! You will need lots of patience, a few parts and a little bit of luck, and most of these can be resurrected. Get yourself a gallon of Evapo-Rust - it's a life saver on these neglected machines!

I used something else with good results, the engine is turning over smoothly now sans heads.
The gas tank has gas still in it, smells good almost, no water, no rust, getting drained tomorrow anyway.

And thanks to all from all across the country!
Have a safe 4th holiday!
