The reason I put a barbed fitting where the plug is is the hose connection is a nice straight shot in.
A fitting in the side, even a 90 degree fitting was getting in the way with carb going in and coming out.
Just worked out better for me, Jungo too.
I think the thread size where the tape is is the same as the plug.

So that is a fuel inlet, I never bothered with it as it has a plug in it from Tom.

I guess a plug can be put in the side and a fuel inlet under would be fine.

That would provide more frame to carb. clearance.

Also here is a shot of my throttle cable setup. Seems to work pretty good.

That is a nice looking setup, I like it.

Very nicely done.

Push pull is a good thing.
I do believe I'll be copying it for mine.

I probably missed it but, does anyone know the oe application for the 32/34 dft carb?thanks

I may be stirring up an ant hill here but one of the reasons I like the 2 cable setup is that it makes it possible to go without a throttle return spring.

I did this on my GS850 because the spring was way too strong. I really liked it without a spring. You can start the bike up cold and set the fast idle speed as you like. When you are cruising on the highway you can take your hands of the bars without the bike slowing down.

I tried removing the spring on this '82 GW but it would not idle at a steady speed but would gradually speed up. Couldn't just leave it idling.

The first bike I ever owned was a '48 HD. It had a solid wire for the throttle so it was a true push pull and there was not return spring. Just seemed normal from then on.

I'm sure I will get comments on this.

Tom's carb has three return springs on it, I removed one of the return springs, My throttle is now nice and light. But still returns to home.

The sheet that came with Toms carb will tell you which spring to remove to lighten the throttle pull.

Your not starting an ant hill,...maybe a mole hill :smilie_happy: !! I try to use the the lightest feel on my throttle just like West!! Main reason, I have arthritis in my hands and this help my hands from becoming numb  while traveling!! I like the push & pull set up Brian, now I see how West done his also!! :music: A light spring would defeat the purpose of a light feeling,....but a good idea anyway :good: !! Later :hi: Bob

I've been running mine with only the spring(s) on the center shaft. Nice easy twist.
Might try lubing the cable and the tube at the grip if more spring is needed to pull back to idle.

well to each there own......I never liked the two cable set up on oldwings ever ....i have found that the smaller 22-22 has much stiffer springs than the 24-25 bigger carb....on mine I use the stock weber linkage and it seems fine with a one cable hook up ....seems to be no chance of spring failure that would be cause for concern ....some really nice cable hook ups for all ...the weber is a really nice set up carb ...and this issue is small

Tom's 32dft and some others I have seen, have three springs on the throttle shaft, and some only have two on the throttle shaft, depends on the application the carb was to be used for.

There is a Tips on Carter-Weber carb. Sheet that comes with Tom's carb that says if the throttle has to much throttle tension then one of those three spring can be removed leaving you two remaining springs.

To lighten the throttle pressure,

Look at Post #737 Top picture,

In that picture you can see both vacuum tubes pointing directly at you.

The One spring to be removed, to lighten the throttle pull, is that one on the far left side of the carb, the other Two springs are on the far right side of the carb. remain on it.

The spring that is removed for lighter pull is referred to as a Forward return spring.

Good to know west.

I pulled some other choke linkage parts from that 3rd spring side.
Mine came without that 3rd spring (not from Tom).

Isn't there a "prepping the 740 carb" thread we should post this in?

I love the features of the 740! I used a carb from the junk yard and rebuilt it, It was from an early model Chevy Small block 307ci. I used the push/pull cam off of the orignal setup and used 4 6/32 screws and attached it to the old thottle linkage, Now I have a push/PULL setup. I was concerned about the Pull because my return spring is not as strong as the oringal [But it will RETURN] I had installed this before I became a member of this GREAT site!!! I will try to wiggle a camera in there, [might have to use a mirror] Please use Loctite 262 on the screws, Please ride SAFE and use 4 EYES!!!

I tried to upload a picture of that tips sheet from Tom, to the carb prepping thread But I cannot, I have it in Doc. or PDF only and cannot upload those files.

If you want/need more spring pressure for returning throttle back to home add a helper spring, Like on the Chevy Nova, that 307ci came out of, to some place on the linkage and other side to frame or engine or ?
