sounding good jungo seems to be running fine....nice work

Thanks guys. More to come...

Hey Jungo,

Glad to hear you got it running, with a 32DFT

Is that one of Tom's carbs?

That is exactly how mine runs, push the starter it is instant on, and runs excellent.

I did not adjust My idle Mixture screw either, it just ran too good to make any adjustments.

When i did adjust the Idle mixture it did not make a lot of difference.

Toms carbs just seem to run great, right out of the box.

Looks good Jungo.

My bike sounds a little meaner, Not Loud, just more high performance, as I have Harley Davidson mufflers, I bought them from the HD dealer for $20 for the pair, they took them off of a new bike, so they looked like new, I dont think the bike was ever fired with these mufflers on as they looked to clean inside.

Yes in deed Westgl, I bought the carb from Tom. Works beautiful just right out of the box. Now I'm messing with the throttle cable. I was checking your pics and I just take some ideas. Seems like I need to use the "Uni link" to make it easier.

Here's a video for a startup in the morning.

Temperature @ 7:30am: 66 degrees outside, 74 inside the garage. Just 2 pumps and viola!

That looks like it is going to a be a great runner.

My new throttle cable hold bracket is very simple and works well.

That uni link throttle bracket, does simplify things, a bit, and it is reasonably priced, just watch the shipping charges as those can be high

Mine runs the same, runs like a factory bike, smooth only more power.

I have been doing some early morning 40-50 degree start ups with mine, at 40 degrees about 4 pumps.

When it is warm out, less fuel is needed, like yours.

I take it this single carb runs better than the last one did?

Maybe a vacuum leak is causing a delayed reaction.

Hard to tell till you ride it.

I would a do some vaccum leak testing if you have not already done so.

When Ever I do a minor change I always do a vacuum leak test.

im just not having off idle problems and the low rpm twist from idle is great ...I also think if this was first start up of the day it was cold and not much of any indicator of how it runs when warm

+1

One thing I noticed if you watch carefully, there's a definite delay in the sound compared to the video.
Camera lag.
My little video camera and my phone do the same thing.

I see it all the time on YouTube. I don't know why they can't get the audio and video in sync. I'm glad they're not working on my carbs!!! So, if you think you hear a hesitation in someone's carb videos, it just might not really be happening.

Yeah I don't know for sure what it is.
The video's I post on Youtube that I've taken with my HD camera seem to be in better sync than my phone or the little non HD camera. Phone isn't HD either. Maybe that's it?

ok here a video of the yesterday ...mot a cold start up but after a 30 minute shut down ...

ive got it running pretty good but its all trick up to do so ...theres some changes that have to be made for hooch that of bikes wont have to do ..in rather sure the jetting might have to be bumped up ....

Cold idle with finished 1 inch runners.

This is before the engine has warmed up. It had been running about one minute before this vid was shot.

Others working on a single carb install and tuning will appreciate what this means the most and how hard this is to achieve.
Idle will increase to 950 once warm.

I have to give some credit to the C5 ignition.
Joe will no doubt agree the C5 has made these experiments easier to do.
The C5 no doubt has a lot to do with being able to idle down so low, especially cold.

The C5 and a well tuned single carb is proving to be an awesome pair.

Nice work Dan!!

This is great so far as a comparison on ignition (and another plug for C5). Here is my '83 engine idled down as low as possible without stalling right after the carbs were rebuilt and adjusted. I think it is very fair to say that the ignition is most definitely a weak point:
