Getting ready for a timing belt & idler pulley renew in the spring.

Ordered two Gates T274 belts ( @ $12.39 ea. ) and two Gates T42015 idler pulleys ( @ $16.25 ea ) from RockAuto.com ( no affiliation ). Total w/shipping was < $67 - Sweet.

Also picked up two 10.3 grade, 10mm x 40 mm tapered head hex bolts , nuts & washers.

Thanks Dan for your effort for fitting the T42015 idler pulleys using those hex bolts.

Cool! I'm assuming you're doing this on your 1100 - the Gates T274 belts are for the 1000 and 1100, and are too small for the 1200, which takes T070 Gates.

Yup, '83 GL1100I . Thanks for asking !!

I think the hardest part of changing the belts my first time was convincing myself I could do it. With all the tutorials on the forums, it is an easy, straight forward job.

Brian : I'm not anticipating any problems. I read the tutorials and have done several timing belt changes on cars and my ST1100.

I did my 1100 2 years ago and it went well. I pulled the radiator to replace the hoses, thermostat, and silica free coolant. Hoses and thermostat from NAPA priced right.
I now have a Honda Pilot 3.5 V 6 that needs a timing belt too. Looks like a bigger pain than the bike. Dealer wants $1400 to do it.

I'm planning on pulling the radiator & flushing it. Got the Gates hose and will buy a thermostat, too.

That $1,400 cost is mostly labor. I have done the belt on a 3.0L Mitsubishi V-6 and two 4 cylinder Mopars. Not that hard, but it takes a little longer than on a bike. I would get an ALLDATAdiy.com manual chapter on how to change the timing belt and go-to-it .
