I've got an 82' GL100i with just over 34K miles. Can someone recommend the correct mileage for changing the Timing Belt before it actually goes bad?

They say 10 years or 10,000 miles. I just replaced the belts on my '82 Naked Wing. I purchased cam belts from Gates on Amazon.com for $14.00 each. They are Great !!!

That's where I bought the belts for my 1000. Great price (plus free shipping if you or a family member have Prime), and a surprising amount of maintenance parts for oldwings.

Welcome to the fun. Your belts may last another 10 minutes or ten years. Who can guess? You certainly don't want your motor eating itself at highway speed. New belts are good insurance.

After you read and make sure you fully understand the job. Start a thread so your work can be group observed for good outcome if its a first time on a oldwing. Now is the best time to do it.

hello ctauber,welcome to CGW
i had about 50,000 on the 1200 wing when i had the belts changed
i had just over 70,000 on the 1500 wing when i had the belts changed. those 70k belts didn't look much different than the new belts but i wasn't chancing it. the 50k belts were original, time to change them. i think 70k is a good milage to change them at once you know when the belts were changed

10 years and 10K seems extreme. I was thinking 5 year 30K maybe even 40K.

When I changed mine, I had read 40K... once again I cannot find a reference to where I read that 40K. :head bang:
