hello to all goldwingers! On the weekend I replaced the final drive flange (that is how is described in the manual). Back in October when I replaced the tires I notice that the flange was worn out very bad and since I have a trip planned on the 24th I replaced the part. I got one from fleabay for about $28 and it was in very great shape! Next time I will try to show some pics!

I wanted to know your opinion on this. Please see the video. After the flange replacement the tire doesn't spin that free. I did a mark on the nut and tighten it all the way back to the mark when I assambled everything back together but it seems to me a little tight. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks in advanced
Ben

Might want to check out the spacers or spacer I can’t remeber right now how many it uses for proper fit

I can't spin mine like that, period (tupperware interferous ). From memory (haha) that seems to be about right. The disk brake pads are dragging the rotor, you can hear it.

By the way, the rotation is backward, therefore you can't spin it faster than a walk :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

To find missing ferrous pieces, I use a magnetic stick on wheels from Harbor freight. It finds things I didn't know I lost, including every iron filing in the floor!

Stay away from the drill press area!!!!

lol, yeah if I used a magnet, I'd probably find some pretty amazing things. But, still not the spring I'd bet. And I even thought I kept a fairly tidy ship. Amazing how things can simply disappear. Cost me another $4.95, dangit.

But, since I'm waiting, I did take the time to replace the clutch cover gasket I destroyed during my ill-fated hydraulic conversion. A conversion which, by the way, I will still complete. I have 95.574% of the things I need. Used to be 100%, but alas...

The missing oil filter spring (found after I'd ordered another) and replacement proper OD circlips for the drive shaft (found an entire OD circlip kit in my Harbor Freight boxes after ordering) did give me time to stop, change directions, and get some other stuff done while waiting. But, considering how many boxes and shelves I've filled with Hunley parts, I'm doing better than my average.

I installed a new set of soft bags

It's taken me 4 1/2 years, but I think I have this one the way I want it.
Looking nice :good:

Pictures on my build thread tomorrow after some of the masking comes off. Finished cleaning the rear pumpkin and swing arm. This afternoon it finally got into the 60's but it was windy. Pulled the mule out of the shed and hung the partly assembled rear end in it. Etching primer and satin black wheel paint (rattle can).

Rebuilt the rear caliper on the 84I, no change in the poor brake behavior. I have a master cylinder rebuild kit, so I'll tackle that when I get back from Vegas (leaving tomorrow for 2 weeks there). If I get lucky, I'll buy a new GL1200 so I don't have to work on one daily. Oh, that's right, they don't make them anymore.

Still quite a few almost new around, am amazed just how many i've seen over the years. Careful what you want to buy if your like me, :mischief: you just might find what you want. :smilie_happy:Then what??? :hihihi:

It sounds like you have plenty of fun things around according to my bud here in Indiana. I'm glad you guys could get together on the wheel. Hopefully I'll get over there sometime soon and meet up. Have a good time in Vegas.

Replaced the o-rings on the gas pipe between 1 & 3 carburetors on the 84I; they were putting more gas on the floor than in the engine. With no SAS, getting the rack off and back on is relatively painless.

If they had continued leaking, the progressive 2-bbl and manifold on the run stand engine would have replaced the 4-carb rack.

Question: the run stand engine stator is dead. I have a Gl1000 spare engine, could it be a donor for the stator?

Tom

Cleaned more rusty parts and primed them. Rattle-canned some engine black on a bunch of pieces that will never be seen. Part of the joy! Oh yeah, primed and sanded side covers. Shelter sides tomorrow (maybe). Still planning to mount the frame to the motor by the end of the week.

Pushed the 1100 about 7 blocks home yesterday. THAT was not the best idea I've had in a while let me tell you that was a lot like WORK!
Ok, so for the reason why. It ran just fine there but when I came out of the Supermarket it cranked, fired and ran like trying to pour lead into a funnel. I dropped it into 1st gear, gently let the clutch out and it SPIT HARD and died. I can take a hint so no more attempts and just pulled the Helmet and Leathers off and pushed her home.
NOW HOME it started and idled smooth mostly but now and then coughed this kinda high pitched NASTY sound. I had to blip the throttle a few times just listening and diagnosing and that's when it hit me what is was. One of the belts had to have slipped a cog and after pulling the covers off...My suspicions were confirmed. Belts looked original even after the guy I bought it from claimed they were just replaced at the dealer...NO SURPRISE there right? We've all heard that when buying used. Pulleys just slipped with fingers & Bearings felt gritty internally and looked original.
SO, I ordered new Goodyear belts from my local parts supplier and came here to do some research. I found an alternative to the original Honda pulleys in one of the sections in here and I am definitely going to make work. I just ordered 2 Timing belt pulleys for a 1997 Kia Sportage and have relegated today to make them work.
I don't know if this is what anyone meant concerning this thread so if you need to move it just let me know where to go update after the repairs and the pulley mods.

Am I alone in this or does EVERYTHING always happen at once to just me? Last week the transmission in my GMC K1500 Z71 decided it wanted refreshed after only 197,864 miles. Bottom line there; After a Complete tear-down (I do mean complete...everything is punched out of the main case body) still waiting for all the updated internals so I can rebuild that as well. IT makes me wonder what next?????

Your luck is no worse than mine it seems. The pullies you mention. Are those the tensioner pullies? This post is fine here but if you want to post your full repairs. Please start a thread in the 1100 forum.
