Why can't you use the horseshoe headpipes? Are you concerned about drilling holes in an expensive set?
I'm blessed with several sets, and could easily drill a set of "junk" headers and use them for testing.

My guess is your bike is not the only one that could use minor adjustments but you have a strong ignition which helps, and you are familiar with it.
Now you can finally tune the carbs properly.

er, there's no such thing as junk headers here in OZ. GL parts are a very rare commodity here. i buy EVERYTHING from the US or the UK.
there is no way i will be drilling holes in my headers. :smilie_happy:
might be able to rig some other muffler up or some thing. first, got to find a local bloke with the gear to do it.

I need to have a thought about making a O2 / air fuel ratio sensor that we can use up the exhaust/tail pipe as per the original exhaust gas analysers

Just another thought...are all 4 pistons installed with "IN" facing up? The valve clearance cutouts are different for the intakes and exhausts, and the pistons might possibly have a small wrist pin offset - I'm not sure on these. Trying to consider all possibilities...
:beg: :heat: I'm so glad I just stumbled onto this. this is one of my questions too

yep, all pistons installed correctly. at the moment , here is where its at.
one range colder spark plugs. ( DR9EA )
removed the small washers under the slide needles.
replaced the air jets with 100 size jets. stock are 110. saw this on the oring kings site. slightly sceptical that it would make a difference , but it seems to.

it is now running as good as its going to. not hesitating or surging . going for a long ride this weekend to South Australia. a good chance to do a fuel economy test. :moped:
