most electric stuff can survive soaking if they aren't powered up when they get wet until they are completely dry. Most of the bad igniters cook out the epoxy and some of those can be refilled and continue use.

This sounds reassuring. The epoxy isn't melted on these.

both of mine had the goo melted out of them, i refilled them with JB weld and still run the same ones! i didn't want to use the 83 's because i still don't use a ballest res! BTW, i dropped your box at the post office this evening, it has the ign housing with vac unit, and the cent adv unit. no cover,no pick up's and no shaft for the cent adv unit, but i did put the bolt in that hold's the cent adv unit to the shaft

Thank you. I'm looking forward to getting her running again.

Using the right coils will get you the best spark with the lowest current draw. Using a ballast resistor before the coil just tells me that it is an 8 volt coil instead of a 12v coil. This is only useful if you have a bypass ( the resistor) circuit on cranking so that you get a hotter spark on starting. I personally prefer a 12v coil that is efficient and designed for the system. A reduction in primary voltage will create a reduction on secondary output voltage ( spark) :(

I gave this some thought and after browsing parts prices, changed my mind on neon coils.
You were right.

So I went with gl1500 coils. Thanks for making me think about it.
They are the cheap, readily available 12v drop in alternative. They were the same price as neon coils, but come with a third spare coil and spare set of wires, plus then I didn't have to buy the input plug or ballast resistor or new wire ends neon coils would need.

Thanks for the suggestion...

Did you get the 4 wire compression nuts with those coils? They are different size than 1100 coils use.

This is what I bought. Came with all the spark plug wires, is that what you mean?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/351221766128?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

It shows $45 but they accepted my best offer of $30 shipped. The cheapest neon coils which included the spark plug wires was $35, but that didn't include the input plug which would have been another $10.

Yes the compression nuts are pictured.

Just throw the wires away, they are too short.

Ok, thanks. I'll ebay them and the 3rd coil and cdi and 1100 coils I don't need. Try to get some money back... These 1100 coils are still good, they're just missing the ballast resistor, so I'll sell the coils individually. Hoping I might be able to get enough out of all that to buy a seat for this bike. I wonder if this will fit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Chopper- ... eb&vxp=mtr

WOW ! with that seat, you are going to have to mount a trailer hitch ball on it so you dont slide off :whistling:

You mean as a rectum positioning device? Ouch. :smilie_happy:

This is what made me think I wanted an unusual white seat. Totally flat brat style, that would have been worse, but nothing like this exists in my price range.

This bike has been my computer background image since before starting this project. I never get tired of looking at it.

that ride Really needs a rectum positioning device!! looks cool but would never work for 1 of us old guy's

At 45 I am one of us old guys. I think you just ride too fast.

Technically the tail light on the bike looks like an emergency rpd. If the bike starts to get away from you, your cheeks would guide you right onto it like a tractor trailer hooking up.

Looks pretty complete to me. Except the pick ups. Cleaning and a little oil will do wonders. That round stud at the base of the vacuum advance bulb is a screw. Cut a slot in it and use a tight fitting screwdriver it will back out.
