Ok I would assume the carb is not dialin good ...I’d clean the plugs ...then do a lot of low rpm running and take offs ...like stop and go traffic is ...or just idle it at home making sure it don’t get hot ...for 30 minutes or so and check plugs again to see if low rpm is the problem where it’s running rich ....my guess it is ...the plugs we’ll tell you ...that be my first move ...

3- ship off stock carbs to Mike Nixon

what would you do ??

I have no experience with the single carbs. BUT, I did a complete rebuild of the stock carbs on the '81 Standard last winter and it really was pretty easy. I wish you could send them to me and I would be glad to rebuild them, but my time is heavily consumed right now with family issues, plus I do not have a test engine for them unless I take mine off the '82..

What would I do? I would rebuild the stock carbs! I could walk you through if you needed help.

I already did and it still leaked.

If you wanted to ship them to me, I could certainly take a look and find out why they are leaking. I have plenty of bench testing capability, just no engine to perform final settings for them. Leaks I can find and fix!

I didnt use a kit to rebuild. I simply made my own o rings and gaskets with viton string. I also did not change out the bowl gaskets so that could be it or a stuck float.

I can recommend Mike Nixon. He did the CBX carbies that I dropped off to him in 2013 at his place. He has Plenty of spare parts available and he only uses genuine Honda parts or there original supplies parts. Excellent setup with sofa blasting and ultrasonic cleaning. Will also zinc plate all your steel parts for additional cost.

Yes, He rebuilt a set off of a gl1200 a few years ago and that bike was amazing, should not have sold the thing :head bang: :head bang:

If it is fouling plugs at idle, then what??

Ok ..that means it’s getting to much gas and not enough air ....I’m no familiar with the solex carb really ...but there must be a way to open the throttle plate more at closed position and also need to turn gas down a bit ... it must be actually close so the adjustments won’t be a lot ...seems some solex have a hole in the throttle plate that can be plugged or open ....if it’s plug now I would open it as my first move....then try and set the idle again

Well i cleaned the plugs and turned mixture screw in 1 1/2 turns and it seems to be running better but that might be because the plugs are clean. I looked into the carb and noticed no hole in butterfly plate so i might research that and see if i can drill a small hole, then see what happens.

Seat update, I finally received a tracking number from Vietnam but, I already went ahead and purchased a slightly different seat from another company, so i will have 2 seats !! Oh well, can always sell one. Will post pics when seats come in.

Dont drill any hole just yet ...let’s see how it does with the new adjustment ...

With small screw (avm) 1 1/2 turn outs from seated position, I did not idle yet per your instructions. Took out for a ride , which did involve some stopping and starting. checked plugs after ride all all were okay except for #4 which was dry fouled. I guess I can turn screw in maybe 1/8 turn increments and still try idle with fan on engine. If I'm turning the small screw (air volume) in, will that run it leaner?

Adjust the mix screw in to highest idle then adjust idle down to 1100 rpm. Air /fuel mix screws can go either way. Adjusting to highest rpm is best mix for the jets installed.

I have a single carb. What's happening if i move the air/fuel mix screw slowly each direction and the idle doesn't change?

Hmmmmm ...it hard for me to know really ...as I’ve only worked with one of these carbs once before ...and that was a long time past my memory span...well we know plugs were black ...so we know it’s rich ...I’m not sure witch cuts fuel but if small movement isn’t getting a change go big ...let it idle and try and make it quit running ...dang screw should stop fuel flow ...then start from there and open it just a bit and try to start it ....if the motor never quits idling run the screw all the way in ...and ride it ....with theseway smaller motors than vw motors it just don’t take much fuel to get a idle ...the good thing here is obviously your manifold is tight and not leaking air in ...

Gas can be feeding it to run if the throttle plate is open enough to draw from the primary (main) jet.
It could be, since turning the idle mix screw doesn’t affect anything, that the idle fuel passage isn’t supplying any fuel, rather fuel is being delivered from the main jet to run.
Just my guess at this point but I’d pull the carb and open it up to check the idle circuit passages and jet are clear.

Here's another possibility that might be something. This bike was dialed in nicely , then i switched out the fuel pump for another stock pump off of my donor bike(now gone). I did this since the original was leaking. Since then i have been having fouling issues, so maybe the pump had some gunk in it.

Okay, the air/fuel mix screw is working. I had to let the bike warm up. 1 & 4 fouled. I'm going to have to clean plugs and start over. See what happens.
