chop and destroy! (or, more accurately, destroy and chop!)

In the natural course of riding motorcycles, it's not so much a matter of if you go down, it's more a matter of when and how hard. Other critical factors in the equation consist of are you seriously fucked up, who was watching, are they laughing, and are you? It's pretty much unavoidable, given...

That would probably be what it is then.

    Engine is froze

lol-okay. I was wondering. Yeah, that's what I was hoping. I have a few rolls of that stuff. And here I thought I'd learned a new old school goldwing trick lol

    What is this wire?

What is this wire? Comes out of the wiring harness next to the coils. Before I started tearing the bike down all the electrics looked complete, but I can't find where this wire goes (went) for the life of me.

Dan, when you say paper head gaskets..just plain paper? Would something like printer paper work? Or something thicker?

    Engine is froze

The bike was left laying on it's side :headscratch: kinda...not all the way over, but yeah..it is kinda odd now that you mention it.

    Engine is froze

I finally got back to working on it for a bit. The cylinders look like they are going to clean up fine.

    Anyone ever seen this bike?

Oh, I forgot about the "purists" Those who believe some engineer, in some far away office, designed the be all, end all, of motorcycle/automobile designs. I say SCREW THAT! Chop it, drop it, crop it and make it yours and your's alone. Rat Bike, Rat rod, sport bike, geezer glide..etc..are just...

    Anyone ever seen this bike?

This is the only picture I could find of it. I was looking for examples of wings that showed off the top frame some. Most of them looked bad but I kinda like this one. Some kind of tank sitting on top but it's hard to tell in this picture what it is.

    Engine is froze

Well, started tearing the heads apart and while the heads and valves are not too bad (at least fixable) the cylinder walls look pretty bad. Hard to see in the pics but there is a lot of built up rust at the top of the walls. I'll get some of that rust converter and try cleaning and what ever...

Steve, ouch...if those valves cleaned up then there is hope for mine :)

    Engine is froze

I use Nut Buster from K-Chem Inc. It is hands down the best stuff I have ever used but at 15.00 a can I can only afford it because my boss at work gives me a generous spending allowance  Speaking of carb dip, the last gallon I bought from NAPA came in a can with a lid that was PAINTED...

    Engine is froze

Speaking of soaking stuff: Anyone got any advise on what to soak the brakes parts in. The calipers and master cylinders are heavily corroded and froze. At this point I can't get them apart to even think about rebuilding. I don't know if they are gonna be salvageable or not but I would like to...

    Engine is froze

I was wondering if I could take the timing belts off and try to turn the engine and that would tell me if it was valves/pistons, but in the end I'm gonna have to pull the heads anyways even if it's just to lapp and clean. Edit: everything is soaking in transmission fluid right now.

    Engine is froze

True enough! I'm hoping to get the heads off this week and I'll know more. I'm really not wanting to tear into the bottom half if I don't have to.

    Engine is froze

As I mentioned in my intro post my bike has sat for years and the last 3 years with the carbs OFF with the heads getting filled with water. This is bad and I know it's bad, I'm just wondering how bad. I finally got around to getting the thing up on the center stand (my God a GW is HEAVY!) and...
