    Bad fork seals?

Had the same issue with same model, same year. Just replaced the fork seals last night. Haven't had a chance to ride it because of the non-stop rain here, but it held pressure overnight which is a good sign!

Uh oh...think I just lost my trans.

After a tank and carb swap the 82 is alive! Need to rebuild the brakes and figure out why the tach/temp/fuel gauges aren't working. Also need to change the suspension over to manual fill since I didn't get the air pump. Should be good to go soon. I'll come back to the 81 later.

Well guys, I officially give up. I don't see anything out of spec, assembled incorrectly, etc. The ONLY issue I saw at all was that the friction material is near the minimum thickness and needs to be replaced. I guess *maybe* that could have caused my issues. Not likely but I'll order those...

This is the theory I had too. All the components on the clutch shaft are perfect. Removing the main shaft today to inspect those bearings and gears

Will do tomorrow! Do any of those items only turn when the clutch lever is out? No noise whatsoever in neutral or in gear with the clutch in. No noise in gear with the clutch out while on the center stand. Only does it under load.

Thanks man. Need all he help I can get! All of the above were checked and are in good shape.

Uh oh...think I just lost my trans.

Shifting and trans shafts spinning are both buttery smooth. No cracks, broken teeth, etc. All bearings in excellent shape. I'm sorry to keep this thread going, was just hoping someone might suggest something I missed...

Uh oh...think I just lost my trans.

Any chance that deteriorating friction material could be causing this? When I first tried to put the bike on the road a few weeks ago, the clutch plates and friction material would not disengage and had to be pryed apart. After poking around a little more I see particles on the inside of the...

Yep, just looked at a bunch of baskets on Ebay and they all had the same marks. Ugh. Thought I had found the issue. This is very frustrating. I can't find anything wrong. Guess my next step is to check the assembly against a parts diagram and see if anything is missing or out of order. The motor...

Well, pulled the motor and split the cases. Couldn't find a single thing wrong until I noticed a bunch of grind marks on the outside of the clutch basket. That would have been consistent with the noise I heard. There had to have been something loose and rattling around in there. I inspected...

Just picked up an '82 Aspencade for $200! Needs carb and brake work. Motor swap on tap for this weekend! Pretty psyched to have bags, fairing, etc for a future bagger upgrade...

Will do. And what if it isn't? Would that cause it to stick in between gears or something? I talked to my Honda tech friend and he said it sounded like a driveshaft issue. Pulled that apart and everything looks fine. Also took out the oil pickup screen and looked around with a mirror and...

Uh oh...think I just lost my trans.

Looks to me like I can remove the oil pickup screen cover and screen assembly and see everything with a light and mirror. If not I have access to an inspection camera. I just found a cheap '83 Aspencade locally. I will probably pick that up depending on the condition of the motor. Anything that...

Uh oh...think I just lost my trans.

Upshifts seem positive, but downshifts require some effort. Not excessive, but more than normal. Almost feels like a bent fork but not as bad. If the shift shaft bearing was bad it could cause this but not sure that would explain the sensation of power loss. I agree that if one is bad they all...

No. The rpms dropped, thats why I thought it was engine trouble. But now I can't remember if I might have just instinctively backed off the throttle when I felt something 'let go'.
