Did you pull and clean the jets?

Yes I did. After cleaning the idle jets the wing was idling I then synced the carbs and it look to me that it was idling fine. After a couple of day I started the wing and then is when the rough idle started. I did my pilot screws at 2.5 turns. Do you think I should go by the book on the pilot screws?

Thanks!

should run it more and mix some atf in the gas this well clean some while it runs ..as final cleaning it might straiten up..its obvious already it can run good as it has ...so things are going good id say...check plugs see the condition ..best read on carbs

Excuse my ignorance  , you mean add automatic trans fluid to the gas to clean the carbs?

Yes indeed run automagic transmission fluid in the gas. Keeps carbs and fuel passages clean. Stabilizes the fuel. Adds a little kick to the fuel power. No down side to it at all. 2.5 turns out on mix screw is fine to "get it running". Better to adjust them each to the highest rpm you can get. The procedure is in the book.

Seafoam is nice for an occasional clean but does not have the other benefits. Seafoam and Techron along with other cleaning products are nice once in a while but the atf will be better in continuous use.

Have used a variety of trans fluid with the same results, good. All the detergents in any name brand should work great, as well as the cheap stuff i've been told.Anyhow stuff works to dissolve a lot of sludge.

Hello All!

Update and Question:

...What would be the normal working temperature for the wing? mid the temp gauge? past mid?.
I have an all stock '81 Interstate that I've ridden since the fall of '89. My temp gauge stays pretty rock solid at "11:00" if the low end of the operating range is considered "10:00". So, short of half way. Good luck, Dave

Thanks for the info Dave!

Hello all,

Ok, over the weekend I reworked the carbs, reajusted the floats, and checked all passges to be clear. Installed the rack back and synced the carbs. But still have issues. If I accelerate to 3000 or 4000 or 5000 and keep it the bike it'll start to die slowly. If I let the throtle go it will iddle but if I don't let go it will die. I uploaded vid while I was syncing the carbs. By wathcin this vid do you see any major issues with the wing

I'd check the fuel filter and try breaking the seal of the gas cap to see if that makes a difference. I've seen these fuel pumps still functional and leaking.

I'm using a fuel filter that is made to fit a VW Beetle I was told at the auto parts store, could that be an issue?

What it was made for shouldn't be an issue at all. If it is partly plugged though it may not allow enough flow to maintain higher rpm.
