Thats how we learn, bouncing various ideas around. It can get heated at times but as long as everyone respects one another is should never get personal. The folks of CGW do a great job. :laptop:
 
Beautiful day yesterday in Oklahoma, took "The Wanderer" out for a little "wandering". Carbs have stopped leaking again. Now having issues with clutch getting stuck in 3rd. Are these sensitive enough whereby one does not have to push down too hard on clutch pedal to switch gears? I did manage to get it unstuck but when i park, I can't get it to switch to neutral even at low idle. I have to turn the bike off to change to neutral. :head bang:
 
Probably need to adjust the clutch cable some. And yes the clutches on these are picky. My 81 had the clutch cable nuts on top of the arm at the motor both of them to pull just that little bit more.
 
I adjusted the clutch at back of engine and no more sticking, however I still can't shift to neutral when idling. It's not a hassle but obviously not normal. Will keep on tweeking.
I still can't get over how fast this bike is, wandering at a high rate of speed quickly is getting all kinds of looks, especially will all the luggage on. People probably think they see flying suitcases going down the road, which I guess is what it partly is :moped:
 
Had two 81;s, quickest 1/4 mile times of the 4's.The 1100's, 4,ooo rpm = 60 mph, with the 1200's, 4,000 =80mph,way more top end on 12's, but slower out of the hole. 80 & 81's were sort of like the four eleven rear end,s in the old muscle car's, great for 1/4 mile run's, but gas mileage is not very good, top end suffers as well.
 
What is the idle set to? Sometimes too quick an idle can make em difficult to find neutral. Also, try dropping from second gear into N instead of pulling from 1st to N. That can make it easier as well.

This can be a cause of difficult shifting as well. Not saying that I think this is your issue since you are only really having trouble with finding N, but I wanted to expose more people to this common issue like aussigold did for me.

I think he said previously that he had set the idle speed to spec but the only time I had a hard time getting into neutral was when mine idled too high.
I would idle it down another 100 to 200 rpm and see if that helps, the tach could easily be a little inaccurate.

There are 3 of these locks that attach to the frame. These are made for the hondaline removable saddlebags which i believe was extra and added to the bike along with the fairing back in 1981, in the factory. I have two already, one for each saddlebag and am missing one for the trunk, which would be the same as the ones attached to the frame for the saddlebags.
There is an entire frame with all three locks on ebay but its well over $200 and obviously i don't need the frame. The po simply bolted the trunk/hardbag to the frame and I need the lock so that i could remove the trunk.

Switching topics again, I had to tweek the clutch cable again, since I was having trouble shifting and now she is shifting very smooth

Another issue. The original front master cylinder reservoir is shot , so i check online for a replacement and its a whopping $57, omg.
for a piece of plastic. Any alternatives, say different setup from another bike?
