Those carbs are work of art.

~O~

Very nice :good:

.like a simple highly tuned straight carb....really just unbeatable in operation and performance.....

Joe, you almost have me convinced, however my 83 is running so good I just don't want to rock the boat. It took my some serious time to get these carbs dialed in but I can also see the advantages of a single carb setup.

Right is right. So if you are happy with the way it runs by all means enjoy it. CV carbs and singles do exactly the same job but in the way it's done they differ quite a lot.

well there ate some basic facts about cv carbs ...the whole idea that vacumm operates the air and gas charge .....robs the motor of low end torque.....it is really a very poor set up......gas charge is last thing to happen for the motor to use....multi cylinder motors are the last ones that need this discout ..as other cylinders just increase drag...

and it seems the increased smoothness of a one carb system ...makee for great dependable road eating traveling.....

no telling how nice a single carb set up would be on carb made exclusively for oldwing.....the low end torque and no bad spots to redline ...just have me taken on the SCC set up....

My understanding of this bikes set up, is like the 1500 Asp in my garage. :headscratch: Have had it since new, & with 141,000+ miles on the clock. Love the bike, but for the way it's geared :sensored: with no top end,& held back by the ignition's set up. Gearing like the 1200's, with the ignitions set up to run to the red line in ALL the gears as well, would be something awesome to ride! :yahoo:

Ha Joe! I see your single carb and raise it by five... :smilie_happy:

i will put hooch up to anything out there.....hooch would never look bad....hooch gets it done...

You should have it all over him on top end, :smilie_happy: the 1500 wing dresser's, won't top 120mph, :sensored: by design

Valkyrie specs show a top speed of 130mph which is about redline in 4th gear on my CBRs with 2 more to go ( 6 gears and 4 carbs for a top speed of 170mph ) :hihihi:

I've gone 100 for awhile and that's more than fast enough, though on the desert runs like up to Vegas or across to Sacramento you better be ready to run 85-90 steady or get run over.

gee that speed i wont be using ......gearing can do about anything .....rocket bikes are impressive...
I think that the most that I have seen is about 150mph but then it can see 120mph (200kph) heading to the shops if you are not careful. :hihihi:
Those are indicated speeds so probably a bit slower in reality

OK. I know I don't hang around much. But, I still feel like I know you guys. So Joe, I really have to throw a yellow BS flag on this play. You're mighty proud of that ole four. They run good. They run strong. But, fast is not something they run. Solid. Respectable. Not overly competitive. Don't get me wrong, I do love these old four cylinder Goldwings. But, but, but...

...there are dozens - and I mean dozens - of motorcycles out there that will run off and leave them. Contemporary machines included. KZ1000, KZ1300, ZL900, GS1000, XS1100, the subject CBX and, oh yeah... my:

I have been with Joe through his entire build. I'd bet that Hooch will have no trouble at all keeping up with that or any other bike. Pop that bugger in third gear and pull the front up at 70+mph.

Guess I'd have to see that to believe it. I suppose it could be done, but would require some serious re-engineering. Compression, custom ground cams, perfect flow - in and out. And gearing. Not sure simple induction changes would get you there. (Where ever "there" is).

I did. Joe's done a LOT of work on his (and many other) motorcycle(s). No question.

But, my comments stand.

And nice work on the CBX rack. Sychronizing them will be the final installment. I've struggled with my Carbtune on the Valkyrie. 4 columns and 6 cylinders. A dance.

My 1990 1500 was governed for 105. Shortly after bought it I took it up the freeway one Sunday morning to see what she would do. Hit 105 and it was like you turned off the gas. I know there was plenty of power remaining. Took it back to the Honda guru in our area and he just laughed and said that is all she will do.
