ahh finally got to go for a small test ride ...sheesh things went great ...as always hooch showed some good power.....come on riding time ... :yahoo:

Any idea what your top speed is on that monster?

I put some air in the tires, 5lbs. in the front and...about 35lbs. in the rear. I really couldn't feel the difference but I have been looking at the rear for about 4 days.

I fired mine up yestidy and let it run for a while, since I was out doing yard work. Got to watch fuel run right out of one of the carbs....I really should start this turd more often, but....it hasn't been ridden since Nov 10th....too dang cold. It does stop leaking once the seal/gasket swells some, then no mo leaking until it sits again. Neat thing is the battery spun it over quickly without needing a boost, even tho it took a minute or two to get it fired off. :clapping:

One benefit from sitting since November is you've avoided at least two rear tire replacements. :?

Yeah....iffin ya doesn't ride, ya doesn't hafta replace th' tars ever year. :ahem:

I started gettin stir crazy. So when the temp hit 40 i fired up the kerosene heater and pulled the wheels and brakes off the 76. Time fors some new skins and caliper paint.

Speakin of which, anyone have a better way to lift these 1000s? I screwed together some basic cribbing under the frame tubes but that aint gonna work when i get the exhaust back on. Can u lift em from the bottom of the engine?

well i do but i have two things i use ...i have piece of 5/8" plywood cut and a piece of truck mud flap also cut that fits good mud flap on motor plywood under that and lifts fine and everything is out of the way ....

Changed the Vetter windscreen screws ( most were nylon and faded to white/grey and protruded in too far ) for some Chinese black alloy screws with wellnuts and nylon washers.
Dash area is much neater without all those old protruding bolts

So I'm not going to damage anything by lifting the bike by the bottom of the engine? Sounds simple enough

Thanks Dan, hopefully they will be strong enough to hang on ( the wellnuts are pretty soft rubber) but I have some other ones from a job that are much heavier duty. I also had to elongate the mounting holes on the speaker / iPhone bracket as the speakers were just touching the windshield ( especially the left one). eventually I will need a new windshield so I hope to have everything sorted re mounting, height, etc before replacing it ( hopefully not for a few more years).

Have to admire the lengths some of us go to make them look brand new, & better. Guess I'm just a little TOO LAZY where this is concerned to say the least!!! :clapping:

That said, keep up on tires, brakes, fluid's, & any wear & tear, or doesn't work, items but that's about it. You can always tell where I've been working, the surrounding area is spotless.

I try to steer clear of the "pretty stuff" on the bike too much. The more brand new stuff you bolt on the bike, the more the stuff that aint brand new sticks out... I like a nice high performing patina on a bike....
