Ok, thanks for the info, gonna think this over a bit.

    Brake caliper cleaning

Ok so this set is jammed a bit tighter, I think I will try to find my grease gun..round here somewhere.... Will soaking in ATF harm/corrode the factory paint on the caliper? These are far cleaner than my old set and I dont want to mess that up.

    Brake caliper cleaning

I let the first set boil for about 12 minutes, pulled em out and when they were cool enough to handle I pulled the pistons out without too much struggle. Now the second set is boiling.. The seals were toast anyway, the pistons dont look too bad though, very little corrosion.

    Brake caliper cleaning

I have a set of brake calipers that are basically clean but the pistons are resisting my efforts to remove them. They have moved since I started working on them and the seals getting shredded as they move. They dont appear to be rusty, so Im thinking that rotting seals inside have jammed them...

    84 1200 Aspencade

Went over to the other side of town to see it, as usual didnt look as good in person. Not so pro respray, rusty bolts here and there, no plate (title not updated to current owner) tires advertised as new..not. Its pretty darn cold outside, 23 F so the battery was struggling and warm up took...

    84 1200 Aspencade

Found an '84 Aspencade with 47k on it for $1500, cant resist, gonna at least have to take a look at it. I know I should check the alternator, simply by removing the left cover and inspecting the infamous 3 yellow wire plug?

What are you LISTENING to right now?

I went for the Sugarloaf you tube video, cool old school stop motion stuff. Couldnt help but notice the sidebar and the great bands all producing in '70-'73 period. Lee Michaels, 3 Dog Night, Argent and so on, liking that stuff is one thing, remembering it as it was first released on FM radio...

A glorious day riding with the kids...

Yes, good quality footage, looks like you had a glorious riding day. Rode through Valley of Fire in..1989 on a '78 XS 1100 on the way to Minnesota. Desert riding, especially where there are interesting rock colors or formations is always a treat, love it, love it!

    84 1200 Aspencade

As usual, good info from the folks here at Classic, guess I had better mull it over further. Just took her out for a grocery run after an idle screw adjustment. Seems a bit better, cold start in the morning might reveal more. Omega Man you made me laugh the Good Laugh, just thinking about extra...

    84 1200 Aspencade

This question is probably silly to most of you but Im wondering how much better an '84 1200 is VS my '82 1100. A question full of unanswered questions to be sure but if Im correct the frame is stiffer on the 1200, the wheels are smaller diameter (better low speed handling?) the forks are...

    It's Rabbit Season

When our family moved to the desert (rural Coachella Valley) I was 17 and thought I was fairly enlightened as to wildlife. Cycles of life and death as nature intended had yet to sink in. Soon thereafter my younger brother and I followed (it was trying to flee) and stoned to death a large...

The Bike that started it all

Yes, check the tank carefully. Looking down through the filler neck I thought I was seeing the extent of the corrosion in my tank..wrong! Pulling the tank out and removing the sending unit cover revealed the ugly truth. Getting the tank truly cleaned out was worth the effort in order to get...
