    1983 Exhaust problem

I did install Harley mufflers on a 1000, no welding to do they just clamped on. I think they came off a sportster, they might sit low enough for the bags. I did like the sound, a low rubble almost like stock.

    1983 Exhaust problem

I wasn't saying to cut off the tip but to grind or cut off the lip at the end of the pipe so he can slide a tube over it and maybe weld it on or glue it.

    1983 Exhaust problem

From the pictures it looks like just the tips. Could you not cut off the flange at the tip and slide a stainless or chrome tube over the pipes. I don't think you can weld anything on there, to much rust.

Just make sure that when you adjust the floats, you adjust them with carbs standing on there side. The floats should be just closing lightly and not put there full weight on the needles.

    quick question

You should leave the rad full or the parts will dry then you might have leaks. I never drain my rads and never had a problem. It gets a lot colder up here then it does in your area.

    What to do now?

Take it all apart and see what you need as parts then, put it all back together and you will come up with a build. I bought a few wings that where in that shape and brought them back to life, went from ugly to nice.

How do you remove cotter key?

That's one reason maintenance is important. If it looks like it was never taken apart, take it apart, you might save yourself lots of problems. When I buy a used bike, I spend time taking apart anything that should slide, turn or spin, and make sure they are free and working like they should...

    GL1500 serious rattle on deceleration

This is just a wild guess but is it possible that it's the oil pump chain. When you accelerate the chain goes tight and slack when you decelerate.

    '15 GL1800 Valk

It's to bad they didn't keep the original Valk but with the 1800 motor and the rad in the front not on the sides. It is an ugly bike like desertrefugee said, to buck rogers. :moped:
