    Rear Brake MC Rebuild

I bought a nice '83 GL1100I a few years back and I have been working on it, off & on since then. I thought the last thing I needed to do was have the rear disk re-surfaced. There is a guy in Michigan who does that for $45 and I had that done recently. After re-installing the rear disk, I...

    GL1100I radiator hoses

I have read on this Forum that a Gates 21008 hose can substitute for the coolant hoses. I believe I read that it can be cut and part of it used for the lower radiator hose and also the upper radiator hose. Well, I decided to replace my hoses after changing my timing belt, so I bought a Gates...

So what port are you using for the vacuum advance ??

I have read on this post that the right port is the "vacuum port" that the vacuum advance should be attached to. I looked where the hole in the bore for the right port is located. It's below the throttle plate, so it's the "manifold vacuum" source. The hole in the bore for the left port is...

    740 carb 24mm bore CFM

I have been doing some calculations ( actually been using the CFM calculator at a carb site ). A 24 mm bore ( the 740 primary bore ) will flow plenty good on a 1100 c.c. engine with a 83% volumetric efficiency up to 7,000 RPM !!! I also read a very interesting post on another website about a...

    740 carb choke lever passage

I was looking at my 740 carb I received recently. Anyone with one of these carbs notice unfiltered air can flow up the slot that the choke rod goes through ??? At least that's the way it is with mine. I believe some kind of gasket material should be present there. Looks like it's missing...

Making the crude 1100 CV carbs to work better ??

Received my 740 single carb ( 24mm & 25 mm throttle bores ) today, but had an idea on how to make the CV carbs work better. We have a local auto "Speed Shop" in our little town that graphite coats piston skirts. At least I think it's some kind of graphite coating ...... It's sprayed on after...

Can you guys out there please give a current report on the gas mileage you are getting with your single carb set-up ? And also, if you have re-jetted ( did you go up or down with the jetting ) , how has that affected your mileage and how your plugs are looking ? Thanks.

    Radiator hose(s)

I read on an old post that a Napa NBH 7733 hose can be cut and used for both the upper & lower radiator hose on a GL1100. FYI - The Gates number equivalent 21008 ( that's the one I bought ) and the Goodyear number is 61002.

Boy, Did I Screw Up !!

I recently replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs and spark plug wires with those nice yellow silicon wires. I also checked the resistance of the spark plug caps, primary & secondary coil resistance - all good. After finishing the job and starting up the bike, it was back-firing ( from both...

    New Member

Hello Dudes & Dudecesses !! I just purchased a like-new '83 GL1100I with 32K miles. So, I'll be asking some questions in the next few days about this bike. Maybe I can start now ... 1.) What weight engine oil is recommended ? 2.) How often does the drive shaft need maintenance ( u-joint )...
