    oil filter

I'm sure it's already documented on the internet, but basically remove the right crash guard, use a bar to pry the frame out a bit, then I used a pair of needle nose vice grips to pinch the big crash bar bolt to keep the frame out a bit, remove pry bar, then remove the 4 bolts on the screen...

    oil filter

On bikes as old as the gl1100, checking the oil pump pickup screen should also be done. Checked mine a few weeks ago and it was about 1/3 plugged. Wish I would have checked it when I first bought the bike. It's actually very easy to do. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2

Head Gasket Replacement - What else while your in there

also don't remove the 2 bolts that hold the water coolant 90 degree fitting on the head. just when you remove the head the 90 degree fitting will pull away from the coolant pipe.there's an o-ring there that you probably should replace.the reason to not remove the the bolts is that many times...

Something is trying to tell me something,

Personally I would never patch a motorcycle tire. While its probably safe, I would never bet my life (or the life of my passenger on it). I am cheap, but not that cheap. Also if you have a way to raise the bike up, you don't need to take anything off to change the tire. This is how I do it...

    Heated Grips

In my situation, I needed to add a gel pad to the sagging foam in my seat. So what I did is bought a seat warmer and installed it at the same time. It is amazing how with just a little heat, how much colder a person can ride comfortably. If you want to ride below 60 degrees, a couple of...

    Heated Grips

I have a set of those on my wing. They work great. What helped me is that i have leather covered foam grips. Basically its a rubber grip covered by foam and then a leather cover on top of that. What i did is put the heating element on top of the rubber grip, then reinstalled the other two...

    New Tars and Dyna Beads

Ok, this is my point of view (no disrespect to anyone). The point of view that I have has helped me not feel frustration with products that fail or do not live up to there expectations. 1) Anything I buy mail order I consider as-is. I don't care if its new or not, I don't care if it has a...

brake rotor size changes on gl series

Can't tell if the calipers are single or duel piston since they are chrome covers over them. The disc rotor size is approximately 11 3/4 inches. The chrome disc covers are about an inch too small. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

brake rotor size changes on gl series

Just to be clear, It is a 1983 GL1100 Aspencade with vented front brake rotors. I don't know the history of changes of brakes on goldwings. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

brake rotor size changes on gl series

I bought a set of NOS chrome rotor covers for my GL1100a . Turns out the set I bought were too small by about one inch. does anyone know what changes there were in front brake rotor sizes through the years of the gl? Even though it was sold as for a gl1100, the box says late 77 on up gl1000...

    my naked 83...stripped and slammed

Beautiful bike. You may want to reconsider your braking setup, while I do imagine having all the brakes combined does make stopping convenient , its not really a safe way to set it up. The problem is, its not like your car. Your car brakes while actuated by one pedal, its two completely...

    GL1100 stator story

Yes that would be true and could easily be monitored by a voltmeter on the bike. What is happening is the output is so low that the regulator is basically removed from the equation and the heavy load causes the voltage to be out of spec and in turn the current would be out of spec in the...

    GL1100 stator story

Ok, Just thought I would post my findings. A few days ago (possibly a week) it was brought up in these forums that a poster was wondering if he had ruined his stator by running his driving lights every day for a month. I was very interested in this because, while my 83 goldwing is quite...

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Spent the evening removing the right exhaust and mig welding a patch over two rust holes. I have more free time than cash so it was easy to justify time spent welding up rusty exhaust. My wing now has a very nice sound, after listening to the exhaust leak for the last month, I will probably...

Michigan revokes helmet law today.Cant wait for the insurance increase.

Just to remark on the stat that in 2007 63% of fatalities were not wearing helmets. This has to be one of the worst stats you could ever pick for your argument. The above statement pretty much says that in motorcycle fatalities, that half of the deaths were wearing helmets and the other half...
