    Source for valve spring compressor?

I bought my '80 Std this past June and had problems with #1 plug fouling in like 20 miles to the point where it was missing real bad. Compresssion is good. The plug was really sooty. I replaced the carb body and got a hugh improvement but still have an issue with that cylinder- instead of...

    Back to #1 cylinder fouling....

Sorry to bring this up again- but things still aren't right. To recap- low miles bike sat for years, carbs rebuilt by Pistol Pete last fall, all cylinders run good with clean plugs but #1. #1 fouled with black soot after 20 miles. Tried all sorts of things but finally put on different carb body...

    New coils

From the 240-Z world--- There were electronic ignitions that had a mag sensor mounted on main crank, then were sent to the ignition unit then coils. As I remember, a six cyl had only 3 coils. Because when the cyl on compression fires and so does the cyl on exhaust it'd no big thing. Just fire...

Anybody else ever bust a valve cover bolt off in the head?

Yeah, that's right, I did it. This is kind of a follow-up to my other post -'My bike's leaking oil like a BP deep-sea disaster'- Went to check the valve cover bolts- top left tight- top right tight then SNAP loose.... Thank goodness it snapped off fairly flat and I was able to get a centerpunch...

I'm going through my '80 Standard bit-by-bit- still had original tires, belts, etc-started with tires, timing belts, oil, coolant then went after the brakes. None of the calipers were frozen and the master cylinders worked and I had no leaks anywhere- brakes worked but like I said the fluid was...

    A note about Pistol Pete

I don't know if this is appropriate or not in this time of political correctness but Pistol Pete who is probably known to most of you more than me as a Goldwing carb expert has a daughter who is in poor health and Pete is taking care of her and dealing with this as best he can- I hope that all...

Still having trouble with #1 plug fouling

#2,3,4 plugs run clean. #1 fouls black within 25 miles. I adjusted the pilot screw all the way in, then back out 1 1/4 turns. It just seems to be running much richer than the other cylinders. The bike runs great when I put a new plug in #1, but fouls the plug real quick. I took the plug wires...

It's getting better all the time- better- better

I'm still trying to get her going again after she sat since 1981- The good things- None of the calipers are frozen- the front master cylinder is still between the lines and the rear is a right at the 'low' line but no leaks and the hoses aren't cracked or leaking- the rear brake light switch...

    Problem with VIN

I tried to buy insurance for the '80 STD I just bought and the VIN came back bad- The VIN on the title is SC022000xxx. Is this a valid VIN for an '80? The insurance co. said it needed to have 17 digits. Thanks

Cylinder #1 fouling plugs, others run clean

I just got my GL1100. It had been sitting for a while and it starts right up but at first after it warmed up it ran lousy- backfired, wouldn't idle, etc. Pulling the plugs showed all were black. New plugs in, drained the gas and refilled with fresh fuel. It ran a lot better but when I pulled the...

    Another airbox question

I removed the airbox to do some coil troubleshooting (that's another subject) and found a semi-gasket between the airbox and the metal intake below- it was real ragged and was made out of something that looked like thin filter material- definately not stock. Should there be any kind of gasket...
